CATS One Woman Show
September 17 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
A Chinese Daughter’s Memoir, a one-woman show, by Xiao Juan Shu, presented by Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS)
Growing up a peasant’s daughter was my biggest shame in my early years in China. In the ’80s and ’90s, peasants, 80% of the population in China, were not only excluded from enjoying any social benefits that workers in State-run factories enjoyed, but also had to pay heavy agricultural taxes. When we went to town, I could feel that we were looked down upon by city people. From a young age, I saw my mother crying many times for not being respected. She often said that she would do anything to support my brother and me to have a good education, so that we would not be peasants like her. So, begins my story … from China to America.
Sunday, September 17, 2017, 2:00 – 3:30 pm at The Open Book, 671 Maltman Dr, Grass Valley. Be touched by Xiao’s story while enjoying treats and beverages sold by Sierra Coffee Mountain Roasters.
